Srinagar, the largest city and the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir is known to be ‘Heaven on Earth. ‘ The city is known for its natural environment, gardens, waterfronts and houseboats. It is also known for traditional Kashmiri handicrafts like Kashmiri shawls and also dried fruits. It is the northernmost city of India with over one million people.

1. Dal Lake

Dal is a lake in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is an urban lake, which is the second largest in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It is integral to tourism and recreation in Kashmir and is named the "Lake of Flowers", "Jewel in the crown of Kashmir" or "Srinagar's Jewel". The shore line of the lake, about 15.5 kilometres, is encompassed by a boulevard lined with Mughal era gardens, parks, houseboats and hotels. Scenic views of the lake can be witnessed from the shore line Mughal gardens, such as Shalimar Bagh and Nishat Bagh.

2. Indira Gandhi Tulip Garden

Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip garden, previously Model Floriculture Center, is a tulip garden in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is the largest tulip garden in Asia spread over an area of about 30 ha. It is situated on the foothills of Zabarwan Range with an overview of Dal Lake. The garden was opened in 2007 with the aim to boost floriculture and tourism in Kashmir Valley. Apart from tulips, many other species of flowers - hyacinths, daffodils and ranunculus have been added as well.

3. Shankaracharya Temple

The Shankaracharya Temple is also known as the Jyeshteshwara Temple. It is situated on top of the Shankaracharya Hill on the Zabarwan Range in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is at a height of 1,000 feet above the valley floor and overlooks the city of Srinagar.

4. Nigeen Lake

Nigeen Lake is a mildly eutrophic lake located in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is sometimes considered a part of the Dal lake and is connected to it via a narrow strait. It is also connected to the Khushal Sar and Gil Sar lakes via a channel known as Nallah Amir Khan.

5. Sonmarg

Sonmarg, also known as the 'Meadow of Gold', is a popular base for trekking to nearby locales. It is as much a preferred family destination as it is for the adventure enthusiasts. The Indus River offers fresh trout and mahaseer (freshwater carp fish) and glistening rapids for whitewater rafting. The Thajiwas Valley at the foot of Sonmarg offers plenty of camping sites and picnic spots with mighty white glaciers set against the lush green meadow.

6. Gulmarg

A cup-shaped meadow, Gulmarg, also known as the ‘Meadow of Flowers’ boasts of the world’s highest golf course, a triangular frozen lake, and a famous Gondola ride. In addition, the Gulmarg Ski Resort at over 8,600 feet offers smooth slopes to both amateurs and skiing professionals.

7. Pahalgam

Pahalgam, the village of shepherds, is perched at 8,200 feet above sea level. This lavish emerald green valley is a paradise of recreation and leisure. Pahalgam is home to a fantastic 9-hole golf course perched atop the valley at 7,800 feet. From Pahalgam, you can visit the temple ruins in Avantipur or go on a family picnic on the banks of the Lidder River.
