Jodhpur

Jodhpur is a city in the Thar Desert of the northwest Indian state of Rajasthan. Its 15th-century Mehrangarh Fort is a former palace that’s now a museum, displaying weapons, paintings and elaborate royal palanquins (sedan chairs). Set on on a rocky outcrop, the fort overlooks the walled city, where many buildings are painted the city’s iconic shade of blue.

The climate of Jodhpur is hot and semi-arid during its nearly yearlong dry season, but contains a brief rainy season from late June to September Although the average rainfall is around 362 millimetres (14.3 in), it fluctuates greatly.In the famine year of 1899, Jodhpur received only 24 millimetres (0.94 in), but in the flood year of 1917 it received as much as 1,178 millimetres (46.4 in).

1. Mehrangarh Fort

Mehrangarh Fort is one of the largest Indian forts. This fort magnificently stands 400 feet above the city. Mehrangarh fort was built by Rao Jodha in the year 1459. The fort is spread over an area of 5 km and is built on 125 m high hill in the outskirts of Jodhpur city. 2. Umaid Bhawan Palace

The last of the great palaces of India, the Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur is the definition of heritage luxury. Perched right atop Chittar Hill, the highest point in Jodhpur, the Umaid Bhawan Palace currently holds the record for the world’s sixth largest private residence.

3. Jaswant Thada

It is a white marble memorial, built out of intricately carved sheets of marble. The carving shows the genius of the sculptors. These stones are extremely thin and polished. As a result, the outside surface of the monument emits a warm glow when the sunrays fall on its surface. There is also beautiful marble jali work on the cenotaph. 4. Mandore Gardens

Mandore Garden is a beautiful tourist spot near Jodhpur which is 9 kms far away from the main city. 5. Kaylana Lake

Kaylana Lake is located 8 km west of Jodhpur in Rajasthan. It is an artificial lake, built by Pratap Singh in 1872. The lake spreads over an area of 84 km2.. The lake is situated between igneous rock land formations. It receives its water from Hati Nehar which is further connected to the Indra Gandhi canal. The natural vegetation here mostly consists of Babool trees, and various migratory birds such as Siberian cranes are seen here in the winter season. 6. Clock Tower

The clock tower is a popular landmark in the old city. The vibrant Sardar Market is close to the tower, and narrow alleys lead from here to a bazaar selling vegetables, spices, Indian sweets, textiles, silver and handicrafts. It is a great place to ramble around at leisure.

7. Chamunda Mata Temple

Chamunda Mataji Temple is located at the southern end of the Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur. . Devi Chamunda Mataji is a deity who is popularly worshiped even by the common people of Jodhpur. The occasion of Dussehra sees a huge mass of devotees who visits this fort and the temple offering prayers and devotion to the Indian goddess who is also considered one of the many forms of Mata Shakti or more popularly Durga.
