Enjoy a cup of tea in our garden or just take in the sight of exotic flowers, pluck a ripe cherry or apricot from our fruit trees and relax with the sound of twittering birds. Wake up your senses, open your heart to the bounty of nature and take a deep invigorating breath of pure Kashmir air. With a view of snow crested Himalayas, nestled in a peaceful cul de sac by the river Jhelum, experience heaven at Awakening.
Built in 1938 as the home of Sir Ram Nath Chopra, knighted by the British for his cure for hypertension and known as the Father of Indian Pharmacology, Awakening is reminiscent of an old English mansion. The house has played host to Kashmiri royalty, ministers and industrialists. Home to four generations of his family, all of the 10 bedrooms and 8 ensuite baths have been restored and can be used as rooms or apartments. It is a harmonious blend of British architecture and Kashmiri interiors with ornamental ceilings and cedar wood floors.
Location
Set in a safe residential neighbourhood of Srinagar with views of the Zabarwan and Pir Panjal ranges, the estate is nestled in a peaceful cul de sac. The Jhelum River flows past the front garden and provides an idyllic setting for a peaceful holiday and beautiful nature walks. Kashmir is truly a paradise and is the perfect setting for family vacations and reunions, sightseeing, golfing, bird watching, trekking or just rejuvenating one’s soul in the splendour of nature’s bounty.
